Yes, you did read that right. If you like the smooth feel of woodgrain against your face, get ready to stop beating yourself with a piece of 2×4 because there’s finally a better way! And its possibly one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
I stumbled on this today during another of my classic weekend interweb procrastination sessions, and have been mesmerised since. Turns out there’s a company called Shwood, based out of Oregon, USA, that specialises in wooden eyewear – something I’m very keen to get my hands (or maybe, head?) on. Shwood’s “skateboard shades” (above) are a one-of-a-kind design that came to life after a skating accident. Watch the video below and you’ll see exactly what happened as well as the beautiful process for how they are made:
I’ve always considered woodworking to be a beautiful artform and have been a skater (albeit not a very good one) most of my life, so naturally when the two come together I can’t help but love it. Shwood make a variety of other styles of wooden eyewear that are definitely worth checking out. Depending on your preferred grain, stain and style of sunnies, a pair of Shwoods will run you between US$100 – $250 and you can find full details on their online store.
